How to choose a hunting rifle

If you come across this post, i assume that hunting is your hobby.  So, you are searching by writing how to choose a hunting rifle and found my post. I did the same thing like you. At that time, i was a novice hunter. At the beginning of my hunting spree, I know only one thing: a successful hunting trips depends on choosing the right hunting trifle.

Researching on something nowadays are far easy thanks to Internet.  When i start researching on this topic, I learnt much valuable information regarding the topic from Spottingpro. Below i have shared my learning.  You may get benefit by reading my findings. Let’s start.

If you go straight to a gun store without any research, you will simply overwhelm by seeing a huge collection of guns.  They come in various sizes, shapes, materials and of course prices. So, how do you select the right gun?

From my experience, i can tell one of the important factors to select the correct hunting rifle is to determine what you want to hunt.  I can assure that there is no versatile rifle that kills every game. For example, if you plan to go for deer hunting, you cannot take a pellet gun with you.  Pellet gun is suitable for hunting squirrel.
The second thing come into play is cartridge. You may not familiar with the term. It is the bullet of the rifle that takes down your game.  Like gun type, choose the bullet type according to animal you intendant to kill. If your plan is to kill animal like deer, a basic hunting rifle will not work. Take a riffle with you like Winchester, Springfield. After selecting any one of these, choose bullets that are powerful enough to shot down your game.

The third important thing is mood of firing. Some hunting rifles are designed to fire single shoot while others can shoot multiple shoots. Which type of rifle you will use depends on your personal preference. Seasoned hunters tend to prefer rifles that fire only one shot.  On the other hand, new hunters like multiple shot riffles.  As a new hunter, spend some time practice both types of riffles.  And determine in which type you feel comfortable.  Pick that type.

The fourth factor is materials used to manufacture the riffle. Hunting rifles are made of different types of materials. Barrels of hunting rifles for example, are made of either stainless steel or carbon steel.  Carbon steel barrels are less durable since they are prone to rust. But they are cheaper than stainless steel barrel.

When it is about stock, there are two types. One is made of wood. And the other type is stainless steel.  Both types are good if you regularly maintain your hunting rifle. Regarding wood type stock, price of stocks depends on wood species. For example, stocks made of Walnut are expensive. But they are durable than other types of wood.

Our final point of consideration is budget. Many new hunters do not know that they need to purchase both hunting rifle and rifle scope. What they do most of the time is buy a costly rifle.  But they drain out all of their money. The result is they cannot afford to buy a rifle scope.

We hope that what we have discussed so far will help you to select the appropriate hunting rifle for your next hunting trip. Happy hunting!
